The Barcelona Metro–Our Wheels for Now!
Hey folks,
Just thought I would let you in on a secret. You can get around Barcelona better without a car. This picture features our principle mode of transportation. Erick uses the Barcelona metro system to get to school every day, a bus. We get on the subway system nearly everyday to go shopping, to church, to have fun, to explore, see friends, go out for a coffee, to get to the airport for travels, or for one of my photo trips. This is the scene if you head out during rush hour. I´m not exactly sure when that is, but it is when there are lots of people. Bright, huh! That is one of my high wattage statements. It was on the subway system where I was pick pocketed back in Septermber as well. We are now comfortable enough to not have to take our transit map with us when we venture out. Most of the time. I like that because we don´t look like tourists then. Which is the goal of most every missionary I know.
Actually one day, when we rented a car to take a trip, I turned it in a day early because I got frustrated after looking for a parking spot for 2 hours. This was before we had our cell phone and Carol was a bit worried. Where´s Andy? Well today, I took a trip down to Plaça Cataluña to return an item to the store, check out a place to study Arabic after the first of the year, eat lunch and watch the old men on Las Ramblas who sit out in the morning sun, reading their papers, watching people or talking about the wonderful goal Ronaldinho made last Sunday in a soccer match. Sometimes I can hear them chat about politics. Oh yes, you gotta see what I saw in the Boqueria market too. A man with his dog. Also a dead pig who didn´t return from the market. More subway pictures with people moving. I have pictures of all this in my, well my…flickr, to the right. I like the sound of saying ¨my flickr¨ to the right. Sorry, it is just something about my adolescent nature still. Or maybe worse, as Erick tells me. ¨Dad, you are so 6th grade!¨
My blog has been recently remodeled a bit. You can now subscribe to this blog in the upper right hand corner. With this you will be notified when I post a new story. I put new pictures on several times a week so you can click the flickr file to the right as well. Notice also that I often add new sites to my list of places I like to visit on the web. I just added a wonderful link with MAPS! I love maps. So, sign up, check back, let me know what you think either by email or comments in the section with each post. More later. Bendiciones a todos.
